Tuesday, April 13, 2021 -New Senator for Garissa has been sworn in.
Abdulkadir Haji, son to the late Senator Yusuf Haji, was sworn into office today Tuesday April 13 morning during the Senate special meeting.
Issuing his first ever speech in office, Senator Haji promised to lend an ear to everyone in the society regardless of their social status.
He observed that most people in the villages are never given an opportunity to be heard what he described as ‘unfortunate’.
“I want to assure you that I will strive and do my very best to uphold the trust you’ve placed in me to be your voice inside and outside this House,” he said.

The young Haji has today officially taken over from his late father through an election exercise that never took place. He went through unopposed after fellow candidates backed off.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC announced having received no other application from anyone from Garissa County.
“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission makes a declaration of no contest and declares the person listed in the 1st and 2nd column to the schedule duly elected as the Senator, Garissa County,” IEBC’s Gazette Notice on Tuesday, 6th April read.
Haji now belongs to Jubilee Party.
