Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o is the second ODM governor facing graft charges before the Senate.
On Tuesday September 23, Governor Nyong’o found himself in total confusion as the Senate accused him of being unprepared to deal with emerging questions.
According to news reaching Homenews.co.ke, the county chief who was appearing before the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee CPAIC could not be grilled by the senators for lack of enough details.
Chaired by Migori Senator Ochilo Ayacko, the senate watchdog committee termed governors preparedness as immature and that he was quite disorderly.
“We don’t have the responses to the audit queries raised by the Auditor General. As such, we cannot proceed to listen to you governor,” Ayacko remarked.
It was interesting to learn that Nyong’o who was once the chair of the same committee while he was the Kisumu senator in the 11 parliament, could this time find himself between a rock and hard lace by not being able to live upto the committee’s expectations.
He however defended his answers saying whatever he was submitting was the same answers he once provided last year.
The ODM Party elected Governor was expected to address the audit queries as raised in the Auditor General’s report on county’s dubious expenditures for years 2015,16, 17 and 2018.
“I will be the last person to undermine devolution and oversight. We may not have responded to some queries, but it is not that the responses are not there. We will provide them,” he assured.
His own Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, reacting to the unfolding, asked the watchdog committee to punish Nyong’o through fines for trivializing serious county matters.
