Friday, October 1, 2021 -A police man based at Marsabit Police Station is battling depression and urgently pleading with well-wishers to come to his rescue before the worst happens.
Going by the name of Kiprotich Rop – while ranting in a video clip that has since gone viral – said he is fighting depression due to many difficulties he is facing in life.
Though he has contemplated taking his own life several times, he now says he can change his mind should anyone come to his aid.
“Please help me, I don’t want to die. My wife is pregnant and I do not want to leave her behind.
“I am requesting everyone who is ready to help me to cope with depression to come to my rescue. I have been had suicidal thoughts severally. I tried to kill myself today. Please help me. I do not want to die,” he urged.
Todate, reports indicate that every year, about 60 police officers take their own lives due to challenges both at home and on job.
“Stagnation in rank, disciplinary actions arising from desertion and inadequate monitoring of junior officers leaving outside police lines are among causes of stress in officers identified,” part of the report reads.
Several incidences of police committing murder, suicide and accidents due to depression have become rampant with the recent case being that which took place in Siaya County. Senior Sergeant George Omondi who was attached to Huduma Center was discovered dead in his home after razing down his own house.
