Sunday, December 12, 2021 –President Uhuru Kenyatta broke protocol to invite Raila Odinga to speak to Kenyans during the 57th Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Uhuru who mentioned Odinga as a true patriot and adviser during the challenging times of Jubilee administration, invited the supremo to address last after everyone else had spoken.
This move caught many unprepared as Odinga walked to the stage with his right hand signature fly-whisk.
The President talked about the spirit of the Building Bridges Initiative BBI which he said it will finally be revived so that to address the many historical challenges that have been bedeviling this nation for years.
He defended the BBI saying it would be difficult for the country to realize equality without addressing the leadership gaps that are still existing today in the Constitution.
“Whatever was in the BBI must be addressed and this we must fix it so as to correct the skewed representation. This will happen,” Uhuru confirmed in his conclusion remarks at Uhuru Gardens Grounds.
On his part, Odinga talked about fighting graft and land grabbers giving an example of Weston Hotel which he claimed sits on a land grabbed from Uhuru Garden.
Deputy President William Ruto steered clear of his signature abrasive politics as he welcomed his boss Uhuru Kenyatta to address.
