Friday, December 1, 2023 –Ministry of Health has reported that about 100,000 community health workers have been deployed across the country.
Speaking in Meru County during the marking pf the World AIDs Day hosted by area Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Health CS Susan Nakhumicha said this government is focused more on public health so that to reduce death cases.
She said that the main aim is to make sure every Kenyan can get access to affordable health services funded by the State.
“We want every Kenyan to get health services without spending a lot of money from his/her own pocket,” she announced.
“As we speak today, 100,000 Community Health Promoters are employed to make sure health goes on well every corner of this country,” she added.
All CHP have been supplied with enough health kits for home medication and, in Meru alone, about sh 129 million has been allocated in the exercise.
“They have health kits for home medication and, in Meru alone, 129 million shillings with smart phones each have since been provided,” she addded.
Speaking on the National Health Insurance Fund NHIF, CS Nakhumicha said the payment will come down from sh 500 to monthly premium of sh 300.
“In NHIF we have had complications for many years. Some diseases are covered and some not. NHIF has had many limitations.
“Digital Systems have also been up and down all the time. Social Health Authority is coming to solve all these challenges in NHIF,” Nakhumicha added.
CS Nakhumicha also took the chance to laud the United States of America U.S.A government and other Western Nations for supporting the fight against HIV AIDS.
“In Kenya, we have 1.2 million with HIV. Out of this, 96 percent are on treatment and that is how we are stopping the spread.
“I love seeing many people living with HIV living a normal life. We deliver universal health coverage and no one will be left behind,” she added.
Nakhumicha, while speaking about robust measures undertaken by Kenya Kwanza administration, she put a case for universal health and the newly-enacted health Act that will help cover Cancer and other major ailment.
