Monday, June 10, 2024 –All private security firms have been ordered to start paying their staff a salary of sh 30,000 and above.
The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) on Monday, June 10, gave an ultimatum to all private security companies in Kenya failing to pay security guards the new sh 30,000 a month.
In the statement issued by Fazul Mahamed, the Director General and CEO of the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA), every company is required to comply with the directive or risk losing their registration certificates.
“The Authority has today issued a final notice to all private security firms regarding the enforcement of the Ksh30,000 minimum wage for private security officers,” read part of the statement issued today.
Fazul clarified that this is the last notice to all firms practicing security services in the country as the new regulations take shape from this year.
Any company that will now be found violating the regulation when the deadline elapses, will have their certificates withdrawn or be de-registered permanently.
“In furtherance of its mandate to ensure compliance with minimum wage regulations, the Authority shall proceed without further reference or reminder to exercise its power under Section 32 of the Private Security Regulations Act of 2016,” also read part of the statement.
Nonetheless, report from the regulator indicated that several private firms had already complied with the sh 30,000 monthly salary for security guards.
As at July last year, 2023, there were about 700,000 private security guards in Kenya alone. By then, Private Security Regulatory Authority Director General, Fazul Mahamed noted that only 183 firms were authorised to operate in the country.
