Thursday, March 21, 2024 –Haiti gang ring leader has reportedly been neutralized in a fierce shoot-out with law enforcers.
Makandal is said to have, on Wednesday March 21, been shot dead alongside his key group members in Petion-Ville suburb on the southeastern side of the Caribbean nation.
It is reported that the gang boss with his key team members were killed following a joint force of law enforcers and residents.
To prove their anger, residents would, immediately, pull the dead bodies of the suspects on the road chanting breakthrough songs. This exercise took place for hours bringing every main street to a stand still.
The angry residents then set their bodies on fire as some went to burn their homes kilometers away to make sure no trace of blood is left behind.
This breakthrough came by after a section of residents formed a strong vigilante group aimed at dealing with the escalating lawlessness in Haiti.
Additionally, police reinforced the opaque vigilante group with amoury to help in confronting any danger coming on their way.
This is not the first time this killing of gang members is happening, a year back, there was an attempt to clear the gang but the vigilante group only managed to catch up with about 12 members who they killed and burnt.
Kenyan police who were set to be flown to Haiti are yet to be cleared as hurdles to make the process a success are yet to be dealt with, conclusively.
The Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry who was in Kenya to meet President William Ruto over the same matter, is said to be unable to land back at home over difficulties created by the gang members who vowed not to allow him set foot at home.
Some outlets also reported that he had resigned.
