Monday, February 26, 2024 -Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has asked National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to accept criticism from other leaders.
Addressing in a local function on Saturday February 24, the first-time governor said he had been faulted for telling the truth about Speaker Wetang’ula, adding that the culture of Bukusu community worshiping the speaker should now come to an end.
“These people who are angry at us for speaking the truth about our leaders believe that we are disrespecting Wetang’ula. Is Wetang’ula God?” Governor Natembeya criticised.
The vocal governor accused the National Assembly speaker for opposing truthful leaders in Luhya Community; something that has taken many years to be corrected.
He also claimed that Wetang’ula, being a KANU product, has never known what multi-partyism and democracy means in a civilised society.
The governor said, just like many precolonial and immediate post-colonial leaders, Wetang’ula has never changed his mind to allow dissenting voices to thrive in his community.
Natembeya and Wetang’ula have, lately, been embroiled in ugly-push-back local politics in what insiders describe as ‘succession supremacy battles’.
Wetang’ula is also accused of siding with estranged deputy to Natembeya, Ms Philomena Kapkory, who no longer reports to office after falling out with her boss, a year ago.
This has seen Natembeya take issue with Speaker Wetang’ula, of late.
Natembeya was elected governor on DAP-Kenya ticket; a political party founded by former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who also don’t see eye-to-eye with Wetang’ula.
Elsewhere in Baringo County, Speaker Wetang’ula who steered clear of Bungoma local politics, on Sunday, confirmed government’s commitment to support opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Africa campaigns for the AU Commission chairmanship.
The speaker said, President William Ruto’s administration had unanimously resolved to mount a fully State-funded campaign in support of the exercise because when the seat is won by a Kenyan, the country also wins.
