Wednesday, May 29, 2024 – Juja Member of Parliament George Thuo was poisoned on Cyhalothrine pesticide by a group of people who joined him in a club.
Prosecution has managed to convince the High Court in Nairobi that six people accused in the murder deserve a severe maximum punishment for lacking remorse in the way they killed the late Thuo at the entertainment joint.
MP George Thuo met his untimely death in 2013 moments after visiting a popular restaurant in Thika Town, in Kiambu County.
According to the prosecution files that seem to have gathered enough evidence on how the diseased was poisoned by the six person, a crop chemical called Cyhalothrine was used to execute the plan.
“The prosecution informed the court that the convicted individuals showed no remorse and thus should not be granted leniency,” ODPP stated the need for the maximum sentence.
Cyhalothrine is a common pesticide in Kiambu County and it is used to control pests attacking farm crops and vegetables.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution ODPP, therefore, requested the court to also consider the narration from the family members of the late Thuo. The family led by wife told the court that Thuo left home a very healthy person and did not show any signs of illness.
The emotional wife added to tell the court that her late husband died while in the company of the named six persons in club.
“According to the probation officer’s report, the victim’s family called for a fairly lengthy sentence, emphasising the need for justice,” ODPP reported.
This far, the court is set to deliberate on the prayers from the prosecution as well as the family before delivering the final hammer scheduled June 21, this year.
