Saturday, May 14, 2022 –Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hit out at Mt. Kenya for pushing to grab away the running mate position at the expense of his support base in Ukambani.
Addressing supporters in Taita Taveta on Friday May 13, the party leader observed that he was the only person who should deputize Raila because he has shelved his presidency three times; something that cannot be taken lightly.
Kalonzo added that a powerful cabal of persons from Central Region were busy pushing Odinga to name a running mate from their region; a fact he is not going to take silently. He added that if he is robbed that chance, this will have political implications against Odinga’s 2022 presidency.
“I decided to shelve my presidential ambitions for the sake of the ODM leader. We have also walked the journey together with him and if he decides to abandon me at this hour of need, then he will not win the presidency.
“The ODM leader should make a wise decision. If he allows himself to be misled, he will not win the presidency,” Kalonzo added.
He was speaking this flanked by his close allies, Makueni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo and Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua, who confirmed that they were ready to start a fresh journey which will make sure Kalonzo takes power on August 9.
“The only reason he stopped his ambitions was to support Raila as his deputy. In the event that is not there, the law does not stop him from running. In the event Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta change their mind, we will run on our own,” Maanzo threatened.
It is now no body’s guess what Kalonzo will be doing in the event Raila finally names someone else for the running mate position.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC fixed running mate deadline on May 16; a day every presidential candidate should have presented a name of their deputies.
