Thursday, May 25, 2023 –Nark-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has called out the Office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI for dissappearnec of Mr. Maina Njenga from vicinity.
In her barrage of tweets seen by Homenews.co.ke, Karua, on Thursday May 25, claimed that officers from the Criminal Investigations DCI were avoiding Njenga’s lawyers and, by noon, the former Mungiki boss was either hidden at unknown place or ferried mysteriously to another location where his family and lawyers did not know.
She claimed that the police had secretly separated Maina Njenga from his team of lawyers and even sneaked him out of the DCI headquarters.
“Thuggery Alert! DCI officers this afternoon demonstrated thuggery instead of professionalism by using trickery to separate Maina Njenga from his lawyers who included several Azimio principals and sneaking him out of Office,” she claimed.
Ms Karua, a senior counsel, further described this as ‘thuggery’ and an open violation to human rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.
“This is violating Maina Njenga’s right to legal representation and we fear they will prejudice his rights to a fair trial. In these circumstances is his safety assured,” she posed.
Other Azimio principals in her company were former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Prof George Wajackoyah also a lawyer.
Also present at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road on Thursday, May 25, were former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament MP Jeremiah Kioni.
In videos seen by this media station, a crowd of supporters milled around the leaders, greeting the former Mungiki sect leader and his entourage when they arrived.
Njenga’s woes resurfaced on May 12 when police stormed three homes owned by the ex-sect leader.
The police raided his Nairobi, Nakuru and Laikipia homes where they reported to have recovered two guns and 90 rolls of bhang.
The police would then conclude that he was still running an organised criminal group similar to the defunct Mungiki sect.
