Thursday, November 16, 2023 –Meru County could be dissolved following an application by Governor Kawira Mwangaza to the President.
The embattled governor, on Thursday November 16, showed high indications that she was now willing to allow President William Ruto to suspend the county.

Citing endless frustrations from local leaders who have threatened to impeach, in the National Assembly, 12 County Executive Committee Members, Mwangaza has said time to start a fresh is now.
In her account, MCAs are trying all means possible to create and force charges on her so that she can fail to deliver.
Governor Mwangaza has survived now two impeachment motions at the Senate level with the latest having taken place on November 9.
The Senate voted against her impeachment; with a majority of the lawmakers shooting down all the 7 allegations in the document.
A section of senators from both sides -government and the opposition- seemed to side with Mwangaza arguing that all the charges brought before the speaker were cooked and political.
“Impeaching Gov Kawira tonight would have been the worst travesty to justice. I am glad for our small contribution that made a difference,” Majority Chief Whip Boni Khalwale said.
The Senate, therefore, found all the charges facing her, unsubstantiated.
With the new turn of events, the president, under exceptional circumstances such as internal conflict or war, can decide to dissolve the County so that fresh polls can be conducted.
The suspension period, in the Constitution, takes 90 days and, thereafter, new elections conducted with every leader forced to seek fresh mandate from the voters.

A source who spoke to the media, confirmed that Mrs. Mwangaza had agreed to support signature collection exercise to help in the county dissolution process.
