Thursday, May 12, 2022 –A Kenyan female nurse has today won a whopping sh 29 million equal to $ 250,000 after she was named the best global nurse in the Inaugural Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.
Anne Qabale Duba won the position in a global event organized and held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday May 12.
The lucky Duba was selected by a special panel which oversaw ten finalists who she managed to beat. She would therefore end up bagging the prize against all odds.
The award, according to orgainizers, saw a total of 24,000 nurses from around the world express interest.
Elated Ms Duba would then stand with gratitude saying she never ever thought in her life she would be coveted in a global setting like today.
“I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be acknowledged and celebrated in such a way. This is a win for Kenya, for Africa and the girls in the villages,” she stated.
She assured her hosts that through her Qabale Duba Foundation based in Marsabit Kenya, she will be able to fight the harmful cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation FGM still rampant there.
While presenting the awards to the Kenyan, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, noted that the winner would encourage her colleagues in medical practice to take serious their job to also get recognized.
Others who did not leave empty-handed in the Thursday event are her fellow nine finalists who bagged sh 580,000 each.
Aster Guardian International Nursing Award was first initiated in the year 2021 with an aim to recognize nurses’ role in the society.
