Monday, November 6, 2023 –Nakuru County Commander Samuel Ndanyi has today confirmed the death of, at least, ten persons in a grisly road accident along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The accident involving an eleven-seater shuttle and a truck happened at around 4 AM on Monday November 6. The accident took place at Ngata area along the Salagaa stretch.

Traffic Police confirmed that casualties were immediately rushed to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital for urgent medication.
Months after taking office, Transport and Roads cabinet Secretary CS Kipchumba Murkomen promised to make sure safety along the Highway is improved. This, he said, would make sure accidents are reduced, adding that his ministry had planned to mount traffic cameras along the stretch.
And in June this year, Kenya National Highway Authority KeNHA started the construction of a concrete barrier that is four kilometres long.
The barrier stretches from Ngata Gate to Ngata Road over the rail bridge.
Murkomen also proposed the implementation of car dashboard cameras commonly referred to as ‘dash cams’ to help relay driver and matatu activities on major highways.
The CS also promised to launch drivers retesting exercise so that to weed out rogue drivers from running Public Service Vehicles PSVs.
In a road safety workshop held on October 27, Mr. Murkomen observed that overloading and speeding make the major concern on major roads.
He noted that this behaviour was destroying many roads and promised to build more weighbridges and leveraging technology to curb this menace.
