Wednesday, January 24, 2024 –Raila Odinga’s diehard fun Nuru Okanga has joined secondary school in his bid to beat education standards ahead of his 2027 quest for a political seat.
Making the confirmation on Tuesday January 23 afternoon, Okanga noted that he had joined a day school so that he can be able to balance between his family responsibilities and academics.
“I decided to go to a day school because I have responsibilities to my family and I didn’t want to miss any of them,” he spoke this on a local Youtube channel show.
In last year’s year interview after KCPE results, Okanga, who had been tight-lipped about his marks, told his lawyer Emmanuel Kibet at the Milimani Law Courts that he managed to score 320 marks in the Class 8 exams.
“What did you score in the KCPE?” asked Kibet.
“320 marks,” Okanga replied.
The 32-year-old aspiring politician was by then in court after he was accused of posting derogatory words about the country’s head of state, President William Ruto, on his social media platform.
In a recent interview with NTV, Okanga avoided revealing the marks he scored in the KCPE results released by CS Education Ezekiel Machogu on 23 November 2023.
But when he was arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, Okanga revealed to his defence lawyer Kibet what he had “kept as his secret”.
As he stood in the dock, the magistrate dug out some details of his educational background.
“What school did you attend?” asked Onyina. Okanga replied, “Mumias Muslim Primary School in Kakamega County”.
“Which secondary school have you been admitted to?” asked Onyina.
“I am yet to receive my Form One admission letter,” the accused replied.
It was after this question-and-answer session that Mr. Okanga was removed from the dock when Mr. Kibet, at the request of court journalists, approached him to find out the marks he had obtained in the KCPE.
The Standard Eight leaver was arrested on 29 November 2023 and detained overnight at Capitol Hill Police Station before being arraigned on 30 November 2023.
Okanga was charged with publishing false information contrary to section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No 8 of 2018.
In his ruling, Onyina ordered the accused to pay cash bail in the sum of sh 10,000.
The magistrate also ordered the prosecution to provide the defence with witness statements to prepare their defence.
