Thursday, November 30, 2023 –President William Ruto has flown out to Dubai to attend the 28th Conference of parties of the UNFCCC (COP 28).
Statehouse Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, today on Thursday November 30, indicated that Ruto will deliver a statement on behalf of all African presidents.
“President William Ruto will depart today for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the United Arab Emirates, advocating for Kenya and Africa’s climate agenda,” read the statement.
The event will see delegates re-affirm the importance of African issues and continent’s priorities; this being a follow up to what was agreed in the historic African Leaders Nairobi Declaration adopted at the inaugural Africa Climate Summit hosted in Nairobi in September 2023.
“Kenya and Africa possess vast natural resources, a growing workforce, and untapped renewable energy potential, positioning them to contribute significantly to global climate action while pursuing sustainable development. President Ruto aims to establish Kenya and Africa as key hubs for green manufacturing, supporting the global decarbonization agenda,” Hussein revealed.
The Statehouse noted that President Ruto advocates for comprehensive financial reforms, emphasizing the need to align international financial institutions, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund IMF, with Africa’s developmental context and climate goals in order to achieve the the near and future vision.
