Tuesday, November 7, 2023 –President William Ruto summoned all Kenya Kwanza leaders to a table to deliberate on the rising cost of living.
Speaking on Ghetto Radio on Tuesday November 7 morning, National Assembly Budget Committee chair Ndindi Nyoro disclosed the whereabouts of the urgent meeting meant to look into the rising cost of living as fuel prices soar higher than other East Africa nations.
“The economy is heading in the right direction and we are doing our best. Fuel prices will not rise to the predicted levels,” Nyoro revealed.
This is after the country poured into outrage following Monday November 6 claims by Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir who told the National Dialogue Committee NADCO that fuel prices could move up even more.
He attributed his predictiosn to the ongoing unrest between Israel and Gaza.
“I read an article in the Financial Times the other day that because of the Hamas and Israeli War, the international prices could go up to USD150 (per barrel) and that would literally mean our products going to a high of Ksh300 at the pump,” CS Chirchir reported.
The comments came out even as the Central Bank of Kenyan CBK noted that global crude prices have dropped, with neighbouring Tanzania already selling better.
In Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni had warned of withdrawing doing fuel imports with Kenya citing middle men interference with prices.
According to Museveni, for years, his country has been importing fuel from Kenya through middlemen hence at exorbitant prices.
Museveni’s administration, therefore, told Kenyan government that the only way it can continue doing business with it (Kenya) is by direct importation through the Port of Mombasa.
