Friday, March 15, 2024 –Robert Monda, Kisii County Deputy Governor, was impeached at the Senate level over bribery alleagtions.
This is after majority of senators agreed to uphold the decision made by area Members of County Assembly MCAs in Ksii County.
The embattled DG was accused among other things, of receiving a sh 800,000 bribe to secure a job for one Dennis Mokaya.
Mokaya told the Senate that the bribe was meant to facilitate the securing of a job at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company Limited (GWASCO).
But even after partying with the money, the middle-aged man noted that the DG failed to secure him the job hence affecting his life and family. psychologically.
“My wife did not take it easy. At that time, she was expectant after twelve years of trying and she ended up suffering a miscarriage,” the victim stated.
The DG was also accused of using his office to intimidate his brother.
Robert Monda has, therefore, become the first DG under the new Constitution to be impeached by the Senate. Dr. Monda, who deputises Simba Arati, was accused of three allegations, key among them bribery. He rose to fame in 2007 after defeating veteran politician Simeon Nyachae in Nyaribari Chache parliamentary race before plunging into oblivion, only to be resuscitated by Arati in 2022.
