Saturday, March 2, 2024 –A section of leaders including those from Rift Valley have continued blaming President William Ruto’s move top send troops in Haiti.
The politicians have argued that, it doesn’t make sense sending Kenyan troops to Haiti when, at home, there seems to be increasing spate of crimes.
They pointed out how Baringo County has, for many years, been hit by bandits with families now choosing to run away from their homes.
Addressing the issue on Saturday March 2, Former vocal Nandi Member of Parliament Alfred Keter faulted President Ruto for showing laxity when it comes to dealing with thuggery at home.
“Imagine all this insecurity issues in the North Rift and Kenya Kwisha government is busy signing to take our police to Haiti. I am % convinced that everything you see Zakayo engaging there is an ulterior motive behind it and he has a direct financial benefit from it, even this ‘affordable housing’ projects don’t be surprised that he is the main supplier of most of the building materials. Other than lying, financial gains and accumulation of wealth is his other domain,” he wrote in a tweet seen by Kenyawide.com.
Three areas within Baringo County have been abandoned by locals due to insecurity that has since left 12 persons killed since the start of this year.
Locals interviewed by the media said, they have no trust with this government when it comes to offering them security.
Among the things they have decried lacking is water, food and medication despite the Constitution saying otherwise.
Politician Kabando wa Kabando, while commenting on the same matter through his X-platform, said Ruto should rethink about the decision of exposing police to the war-torn Haiti.
“Our Rais is a puppet of foreigners. Ruto’s greed lining pocket with dollars sacrificing police for massacre in Haiti. He has completely failed to protect citizens from being killed by terror bandits in Baringo, Samburu, Pokot, Turkana, Marakwet & Lamu,” he commented.
So far, schools have problems resuming normal activities if government will not assure teachers and children of their security.
Budget and appropriation Committee in Parliament led by Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro, while on a recent tour in Baringo, promised that this year’s budget will consider opening roads in banditry zones so that to make it easier for security teams to access.
Haiti mission was months ago stopped by the Courts following a petition field by Lawyer Ekuro Aukot.
