Saturday, February 19, 2022 –Militants believed to be from the Alshabaab outlawed group have abducted medics in a hospital in Mandera County.
Reports show that 10 militants arrived at Fino Hospital in Mandera County, forced there way inside and took with them three doctors who were on duty.
Mandera County Commissioner, Onesmus Kyatha, said that they had started a manhunt to save the doctor who had been abducted. He added that they will be working all round teh clock to rescue the medic whom they believe was crossed over to Somalia side.
This is part of a series of attacks and abduction cases taking place in Mandera and Isiolo Counties. On January 31, 13 passengers who were traveling along Arabia – Mandera Road lost their lives after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which had been planted by the militia group.
Just recently, a former driver, Issac Robow, attached to the Mandera County Government was found guilty of aiding the abduction of two Cuban doctors in the area back in 2019.
“After evaluating the evidence on record, I find the prosecution has proved the charges against the accused person herein and l convict him accordingly under section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC),” Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Martha Nanzushi ruled.
Charge sheet read that the driver aided this while transporting the Cuban doctors.
