Friday, April 12, 2024 –The fourteen suspects in the alleged Bomet gang rape incident will be held for another 14 days following a court verdict after their dramatic arrest of Thursday.
The court sitting in Bomet under Resident Magistrate Mbeti Michuki allowed the police to detain the suspects following a successful application by Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI officer Jefferson Mwithi.
Mwithi applied that he is intending to press gang rape charges on the accused seven who were captured on video tape sharing a single lady.
The suspects were nabbed on Thursday and booked at Bomet Police Station after a disturbing video that was filmed last year in December started making rounds om social media on Wednesday.
The video has attracted a wide condemnation from various organizations, including the Bomet Girl Guide Association led by Chairperson Dorine chepkirui.
Dorine said the disgusting video has exposed the rot in society, a sentiment echoed by former Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Bomet Chairperson Sally Kirui.
Elsewhere in Kakamega County, controversial politician Rashid Echesa has resurfaced days after he was reported hospitalised following a scene with Kakamega County Governor Fernades Barasa.
