Thursday, February 9, 2023 –Director of Criminal Investigation DCI Mohamed Amin has revealed what they discovered after swinging into action to investigate what transpired at Dr. Fred Matiangi’s home on Wednesday night.
Amin shared with the public the findings which he demonstrated does not add up to what Matiang’i and his supporters had blown out for public consumption.
Addressing on Thursday February 9 afternoon, the new DCI boss said the raid, as claimed by Matiang’i, was not carried out by police or any government agency.
He went ahead to describe such an action as a well-plotted scrip meant to whip emotions around the country for sympathy reasons, perhaps, well known to those who started the propaganda.
The Police boss also wondered why anyone from the government side would bother with Dr. Matiang’i who is nolonger in office.
“Our preliminary findings have uncovered evidence of a well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear, unfortunately, spearheaded by a person of the standing of a former Interior Security Cabinet Secretary,” Amin denounced the claims.
He also shared some details on how Matiang’i had earlier alerted his security guards at home that there will be a raid in the compound which may see him arrested.
“Matiang’i then informed the guards that police would be arriving accompanied by the media to arrest him and instructed them to allow the police access to the home but to lock out the press,” the statement read further.
It was also established that Raila Odinga’s communication team alerted the media to rush to the scene hence causing the nationwide night panic.
Government has, therefore, taken issue with the media for creating unnecessary tension around the country before conducting thorough verification.
DCI challenged the media to do what is required – research – before reporting any news as it is always required under journalism practice the world over.
Matiangi’s home was under siege on Wednesday night; what saw several Azimio politicians led by Raila Odinga rush to the scene to block his(Matinag’is) arrest.
Matiang’i has since sought refuge in the courts to grand him anticipatory orders stopping his arrest.
