Tuesday, April 6, 20121 -Popular Kikuyu legendary Kikuyu musician Albert Gacheru was a lawyer by the time of his death.
Gacheru stunned the whole country when he decided at the age of 50, to enroll for legal studies at the Mount Kenya University MKU in 2016, graduated and joined the Kenya School of Law. His main mission was to help Kenyan talents realize the value of protecting their creative works from pirates.
“I realized that this country has enough laws but few people, even those in business, understand the laws that relate to their businesses. I want to bring about a change in the laws governing copyright and social-economic affairs of the country,” he stated in a past interview.
He is famed for his 1990s hit song Mwendwa Wakwa Mariru, which instantly catapulted him to national fame on its release.
Other songs he did are Indo Ciakwa, Hurry Hurry Waithera and Mumunya among so many others which are popular in PSV vehicles, radio stations and in clubs around their Mt. Kenya area.
He also owned his own recording studio which he called Wamaitu Productions that managed to record big names like the late John De Mathew and Queen Jane.
