DP’s Wheelbarrow outburst at Bomas creates tension[Video]

Deputy President William Ruto’s wheelbarrow topic created some tension at Bomas of Kenya Grounds where Building Bridges Initiative BBI Report was being unveiled.

In the Monday function and which was graced by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Handshake Partner Raila Amollo Odinga, Dr. Ruto tried hard to explain why he was still distribution wheelbarrows in the 21^st Century.

This was after a youth from Trans Nzoia County by the name of Alex Matere challenged leaders to empower the youth well rather than to use old methods, a remark that appeared to rub the DP the wrong way.

“I want to thank the bright intelligent young man from Kitale because he said that we should not adopt 16th-century technology. I’m sure he was referring to the wheelbarrow and possibly he was referring to me.

“The question I want to ask is how come in the 21st century, a 16th-century tool still has millions of citizens still dependent on it? That is the discussion we need to have,” noted Dr. Ruto.

It was at this point that the delegates and notably MP Millie Odhiambo were heard shouting down the DP asking him to respect the presidency.

Ruto who stayed put with his long speech despite the booing, asked for patience from those who were shouting at him saying he was speaking for his ‘Hustler Nation’ which comprises millions of poor persons in the society and who ought to be heard too.

Attempts by the DP further to hit out at the former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka bared no fruits after MP Millie odhiambo’s heckling voice drowned his speech.

And when there was some sanity in the air, he quickly seized the opportunity to remind the elites that he will not just sit down and watch as the poor people are ignored.

He promised to provide a level platform where the bodaboda operators and mama Mbogas could also express their feelings as equal partners of this country Kenya.
