Saturday, May 22, 2021 -Kenya’s veteran rugby coach Benjamin Ayimba has finally breathed his last.
Ayimba since last year has been at Nairobi Hospital receiving specialized treatment after he was reportedly diagnosed with severe Cerebral Malaria.
According to media reports, the veteran coach was taken ill at the facility last year and immediately admitted to the High Dependency Unity HDU.
His career spans all the way from when he was a key player in the Kenya 15s and 7s international. He would later join the technical team in the Kenya Sevens where in 2016 helped take the squad to their first ever World Cup Series title where he managed to beat Fiji 30-7 in Singapore Sevens.
Ayimba also helped take the national team to the Semis of Dubai Sevens and made an appearance in the finals of Adelaide Sevens in 2009.
Upto his death, he had been retained as the coach of Kenya Harlequins, under head Coach Antoine Plasman of Belgium.
Ayimba is a Maseno School alumnus.
