Saturday, August 26, 2023 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that opposition leader RailaOdinga misled former President Uhuru Kenyatta throughout the second term.
Speaking in Nyandarua County during the burial service of freedom fighter Brigadier John Kiboko in Ol Kalou area, the DP spitted venom against Odinga saying he made Mr. Kenyatta hate his own Kikuyu community.
In his address on Friday August 25, the DP claimed that, before the Handshake happened, Uhuru was his close family friend and buddy, but things started changing toward the worse when Raila moved close to the Statehouse.
“Let me tell you the truth. We fear you because it happened during Uhuru Kenyatta era. The day you moved close to our good son, he immediately changed.
“He stopped talking to us but when he came to your place, he smiled and that is why we don’t want another Handshake to happen again,” DP Gachagua explained.
He went overboard to state that he was Mr. Odinga who removed Mr. Kenyatta from church events which he used to attend with the then Deputy President William Ruto.
“It is you who misled Kenyatta to leave going to church,” DP Gachagua scolded Odinga as mourners sat pensively.
He however said, should Raila assure the Kikuyu community of its safety throughout the talks, then the community will not be scared of him.
The second in command said the ongoing bipartisan talks should not lead to another Handshake like it happened in 2018.
“We have no problem with you as a man. We respect you and your family but assure us that you are not planning to join Ruto’s government,” he further posed.
He also sought to know why, in every election, Odinga causes problems through street protests so as to join government of the day through the backdoor.
But in an immediate response, Raila dismissed Gachagua’s remarks as baseless and sought to know when he (Raila) had met Ruto as had been claimed by Gachagua.
Odinda advised Gachagua to let the people talk at Bomas of Kenya because that is how political standoffs are resolved.
