Wednesday, March 20, 2024 –Kenyan will soon be required to enroll for a new national health scheme dubbed Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has made the announcement that the registration for the SHIF will commence immediately after a scheduled national launch.
Speaking during a tour of Nairobi County hospitals on March 19, Nakhumicha shared that President William Ruto will lead the launching programme and will be the first to enroll.
“The head of State will be the first to enroll and he announce this exercise officially,” Nakhumicha added.
In that line, the Ministry will use all means necessary to spread the word around to every corner of the country so that every Kenyan can access the service.
“We are going to have a national launch and the communication is going to be from the top most. The President will communicate when we will start the registrations from that national launch.
“We shall also use the chiefs and the national administrators to communicate,” CS Nakhumicha stated further.
This exercise will see Kenyans moved from the normal National Health Insurance Fund NHIF services which has had its fair share of challenges including financial misappropriation as well as inefficiencies in its overall management.
