Vocal Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has swung into action to urge President Uhuru Kenyatta to protect Tanzanians seeking asylum in the country.
Opposition leaders have been under constant threats some losing lives in the hands of President John Pombe Magufuli’s leadership which has been hostile to anyone opposed to their leadership.
Mr. Havi, on Tuesday November 10th led a group of lawyers who argued that Tanzanians fleeing their Dictator President should be allowed to settle in Kenya without conditions.
“The Government of the Republic of Kenya should allow all Tanzanians fleeing the dictatorship of President Pombe Magafuli unrestricted entry into the Country. Asylum seekers should also be protected from pursuits of their tormentors. We owe this to our brothers and sisters,” Havi said.
Weighing on the same, Bungoma Senator Mosses Wetang’ula noted that many Kenyans have been admiring Tanzania and that what was happening in that nation should be stopped this early.
“Kenyans flock to TZ for their investments, work and holidays and prayed that the emerging post-election rifts & tensions don’t rock nor undermine the nation’s unity, stability and admiration,” he tweeted adding that Kenya’s government should therefore admit neighbours whose lives seem to be under threats.
Amnesty International AI was first to raise concerns over increased threats to Tanzanians and asked other African countries to help protect opposition leaders leaving their homes due to death threats.
