Wednesday, February 10, 2021 – Members of County Assemblies who had taken car loans will now be able to use their grant to service the loan.
A total of 2224 Ward Representatives across the country are a happy lot following the recent approval of the sh 2 million grant.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission SRC approved the car grant making it easier for MCAs and speakers who had had been suffocated with loans to now service them using their grants.
Defending their decision, the SRC said the move will not push high the expenditures as an existing sh 4.5 billion car facility will simply be converted to the new grant and the existing loan scrapped.
What the SRC is not explaining however is the fact that loans are always serviced while grants are never paid back.
The strange proposal by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga has since sparked national outrage some linking it to the ongoing BBI debates now at the Assembly level.
MCAs are reported to have given the proponents of BBI the one condition and which has now been settled very fast.
Assemblies are obviously going to play a major role in approving the BBI process which makes the main reason they have been appeased by the grant.
