Sunday, February 21, 2021 -East African Legislative Assembly EALA Member of Parliament Oburu Oginga Odinga has expressed interest in the Siaya Senate seat.
Making the remarks on Saturday February 20, the Raila’s elder brother said, though the seat is yet to be vacant, he is considering competing for it because he has what it takes to take over from James Orengo; Odinga’s longtime ally.
“I have been a legislator for over 24 years which is a long time and now serving at EALA which makes it 29 years of experience now,” he said.
He exuded his seriousness in winning the position in the 2022 general elections what seemes to complicate matters for James Orengo. It will also be interesting to see how their ODM Party boss will handle the matter without widening internal cracks.
“I am considering running for the seat. It is just that it is not yet time for declarations although at the right time I will make it official to the public,” Oburu was quoted by the Standard Digital.
Some sections have however claimed that Mr. Orengo, who has served as Senator twice, is planning to move a step upward for the gubernatorial race. The current Siaya governor is Cornel Rasanga.
