Wednesday, March 8, 2023 –Raila Odinga’s Wednesday ultimatum has seen all roads leading to the Statehouse blocked.
In images seen by Homenews.co.ke on Wednesday March 8 morning, Kenya Police, had mounted blocks on all roads leading to the Statehouse as well as those heading to State lodges across the country.
The authorities are anticipating chaotic protests from the opposition which threatened to lead millions of citizens to pour on the streets decrying high cost of living.
These roads already having security roadblocks include Statehouse Road, Statehouse Avenue and Processional Way as well as some parts of Dennis Pritt in Milimani.
Our sources from Kisumu County also reported that heavy police presence had been seen in the town with police dispatched to protect Kisumu State Lodge that is located in Raila’s stronghold.
Raila issued a raft of demands to the William Ruto’s six months administration which he described as illegal and incompetent to deal with problems facing the country.
“They seem like they are not ready to govern the country. They do not understand what to do with power,” Odinga noted.
The Opposition leader then announced countrywide mass action should the president fail to address his demands within a record 14-days that will elapse today by midnight.
The Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party leader is expected to make good his threats through what he termed as ‘change of tact’ to pressure the regime to heed his demands.
“We want you to wait for the time, the deadline is on Wednesday at midnight, so you will hear from us on Thursday,” Raila remarked at Parliament on Tuesday March 7.
Despite his demand to lower the cost of living, the Azimio la Umoja boss want President William Ruto to make the process of picking the next Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC commissioners an all-inclusive exercise for future free and fair elections.
