Police Move to Stop Anti-Finance Bill Protests Around the City

Tuesday, June 6, 2023 –Human Rights Activist Boniface Mwangi has claimed that scores of youth who had poured on the streets today in protest of the Finance Bill 2023 were arrested.

In an update seen by Homenews.co.ke on Tuesday June 6 noon, Mr. Mwangi claimed that youth who had accompanied him on the streets of Nairobi were being arrested and bundled into police van for expressing their democratic rights.

“President William Ruto is a dictatorship loading. Sending police to arrest peaceful protesters for exercising their right to be heard is dictatorial behaviour. David Ndii and Singoei AKorir tell your boss to let the people protest. Awache fujo!” he reported.

He clarified that the group which started its peaceful match from Jevanjee Garden in the CBD was not armed in anyway.

This news site gathered that tens of police officers took their patrols along Jevanjee Gardens to thwart any planned protests by Civil Societies over the proposed Finance Bill 2023.

In support of the protests was Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who urged fellow legislators to reject the Bill when it comes to the floor of the House.

“On 9th August 2022, I voted at Loresho Primary School, Kitisuru Ward, Westlands Constituency. My MP is Tim Wanyonyi will vote NO on Ruto’s Finance Bill. Wako ni nani? Anasemaje? Ako na wewe ama ako na Ruto?” he posed.

Kenya Kwanza government has a come up with a Bill which, it argues, will change lives of the poor in the country by creating jobs and offering them a better housing opportunity.
