Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party boss now wants the State to stop politicians from conducting early 2022 campaigns which he now says are balkanising the country.
Disturbed by ugly events that took place at Kenol area in Murang’a County last Sunday October 4th, Mr. Odinga noted that if early campaigning will not be stopped, more deaths could still arise in many other rallies since this was raising the political temperatures in the country
Odinga said it is against ethics as well as against the constitution of Kenya for any aspirant to go round the country campaigning before the right time.
“People are forgetting the dark days, we had ‘resist’, we went to Uhuru Park to be ‘sworn in’ and even wanted to split the nation.
“I, however, accepted dialogue with Uhuru and decided to unite Kenya through a Memorandum of Understanding that focused on nine issues affecting the country including post-election violence,” stated Odinga.
He then used the chance to condole with the victim families that lost their loved ones in the Murang’a incident. He also wished quick recovery anyone who was injured in the melee that was characterized by tire burning, teargas and stone throwing.
“I have been deeply disturbed by the violence witnessed in Kenol, Muranga, yesterday where young people ferried in buses from other parts of the region engaged in running battles with locals, leading to loss of two lives and several injuries.
“I pass sincere condolences to the families that lost loved ones and wish quick recovery to those who sustained injuries in that senseless and unnecessary violence,” Mr. Odinga said.
The opposition chief went on to ask the president to order an immediate closure to political chest thumbing in the country which he said may plunge this nation back to insecurity and lawlessness.
He also asked security agents to make sure anyone who was involved in organizing of the Kenol chaos is arrested and charged in court of law.
Odinga said Kenyans should be given a peace of mind to plan without intimidation on who should be their leader in 2022.
He also drummed support for their Handshake which he said was the best ever decision made by him alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta to bring the country together.
