Monday, May 13, 2024 –Last week, a viral video emerged on social media showing a 4-year-old child weeping uncontrollably after news of schools reopening were announced by President William Ruto.
President William Ruto had just made an official announcement that schools would be reopening despite raging floods that were causing deaths across the country.
And toady Monday as schools went into their reopening, the President who had just stumbled on the clip, decided to search for the kid’s mother who is also a Tiktoker identified as Mama Tinsely to discuss with her her why schools should reopen.
“I have been looking for you because I saw your daughter complain about school reopening. I thought it wise to look for her and try to explain the reason for returning to school,” Ruto started the discussion with the family.
In the last week viral clip, Tinsely had just learnt that schools will be reopening and she seemed not ready due to the devastating floods. Her mother would engage her on the matter but she seemed not ready to go back to school. She weeped uncontrollably as she blamed President William Ruto for the news.
“Ruto has said we open school,” she told the mother in the middle of a cry.
But today, the presidentreached out to her and the mother and told them that schooling is important and that it is a constitutional requirement for all children if they have to live a good a life.
“When I saw that you asked why Ruto has said that you should go back to school, I decided to call you so that I explain why you have to go to school.
“You have to go to school because it is important that every child in Kenya, the law says, must go to school. Every parent must take their children to school because it is the only way we can impart knowledge; you can learn new things and subjects that can help you in the future. Your mother and just like me we have gone to school so that we can do the things that we are doing,” Ruto told Tinsley through their five minute long phone call.
Last week, shortly after the President announced that all schools would reopen on Monday, May 13, a video clip of Tinsley Ndutah complaining over the directive went viral on social media.
The clip quickly hit 2.3 million clicks on TikTok alone as other social media platforms also shared it across.
Due to this, the Head of State is said to have tracked down the 4-year-old’s mother who features in the video with the aim of lifting Tinsley’s spirit on going back to class.
