Consignment of medical equipment donated by Chinese billionaire businessman Jack Ma was sold to Kenya Medical Research Supplies Authority KEMSA.
Jack Ma donated PPEs worth millions among other items to cushion Kenya from the covid-19 pandemic but the consignment immediately went missing.
Ministry of Health MHO led by Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, when asked about the same, went on record saying the Jack Ma facemasks and other medical equipment were substandard and therefore could not be used.
But reports now surfacing from NTVs investigation report indicates that the consignment must have been resold to corruption ridden KEMSA.
“It is likely that national government agencies, county governments and private hospitals may have knowingly or unwittingly bought the same items from the devious and crooked individuals who seized the donations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA),” a private body led by Suba Churchill stated.
He added: “Failure by the DCI to come clean on the whereabouts of the donation even after reports emerged that they had been stolen upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport lends credence to the possibility that well connected tenderpreneurs may have seized the donations,” Suba stated.
Suba called for fresh and speedy investigations into the disappearance of the said medical equipment donations which included 100,000 facemasks and 20,000 Covid-19 testing kits.
Jack Ma’s multimillion donation touched down in Kenya on March 24th through an Ethiopian Airlines cargo plane before it disappeared into thin air.
