Friday, June 25, 2021 -Mr. Wilson Sossion has resigned from the Kenya National Teachers Union KNUT days before union elections scheduled Saturday June 26.
Making this announcement on Friday June 25 at Windsor Hotel Nairobi, the KNUT Secretary General wished well those who will be taking over from today saying he will be available to offer any wise counsel if called upon. He also made it clear that he will remain just a normal member of the giant teachers union.
“I bow out of KNUT as the Secretary-General. I shall remain loyal to KNUT and will always be available to advise and support the leadership of the union,” he stated.
The vocal politician further took the opportunity to make an appeal to State to support the union saying his moving out is meant to allow funds to start flowing into union accounts if at all he was the reason as claimed by his opponents.
“As I exit, I hope the government will support teachers. I am making this appeal. I trust that the government will find it necessary to allow the union money to flow to the teachers,” he added.
He is a long serving Secretary general of KNUT who has held the post since 2016. During this time, he managed to challenge the government to address the plight of the members where, in most instances, he would be viewed by the State as a rebel who was setting teachers against their employer TTC by demanding too much.
“I have outgrown KNUT. My responsibility now shifts to Parliament,” he added during today’s event.
During his fights with the government, Sossion – now a nominated MP – was in May this year de-registered from the teacher’s payroll; this being part of the concerted campaign to frustrate him out of office.
It will now be interesting to see who will be fitting into his shoes after this official resignation. Video/Courtesy-
