Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s power tire continued to be deflated after the National Government opened new accounts for the Nairobi Metropolitan Services NMS.
Oflate, Governor Sonko has been playing hard to release funds to the NMS body citing sabotage what, according to sources, has triggered the new independent plans that will see NMS receive their funding in time.
The NMS will now be receiving funds directly from the National Treasury through what has been named the Special Purpose Account SPA which will be domiciled at the Central Bank of Kenya CBK.
It now means the NMS plans to launch projects will take off so fast without waiting for Governor Sonko’s County Revenue Funds CRF.
This is happening amidst, Sonko’s impeachment plans as well as stalemate on the transfer of funds to the NMS.
In June 2020, the Metropolis body which was allocated a whopping sh 27.9 billion failed to access the funds after the threatened Governor refused to sign the City County Appropriation Bill 2020.
To make matters worse for General Badi led NMS, a Nairobi Court halted plans to release any payment to them until Sonko’s case is fully heard and determined.
“A conservatory order suspending the implementation of the Nairobi City County Appropriation Act, 2020, is hereby issued. For clarity, the 11th and 14th respondents are restrained from disbursing any funds on the basis of the Nairobi City County Appropriation Act, 2020. The order shall be in force for 10 days,” High Court Judge Anthony Charo Mrima ruled.
Sonko and General Mohammed Badi feud was delaying development projects around Nairobi what has been temporarily solved by the new accounts.
