Thursday, March 18, 2021 -President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed his country to mourn the death of Tanzanian counterpart for a period of seven days.
Kenya will be observing the weeklong national mourning in honour of the fallen President John Pombe Magufuli.
During his early mourning address today Thursday March 18, Kenyatta directed that both the East African Community EAC and the Kenyan flags be raised at half-mast every day morning until sunset. This will go on until his counterpart Magufuli is rested.
“On behalf of the government and people of Kenya, I convey our sincere condolences to the entire Magufuli family. Africa and the world has lost an illustrious leader whose vision, passion and immense leadership, propelled the nation of Tanzania forward,” Uhuru said.
Though the relationship between Magufuli and President Uhuru Kenyatta was no so good especially on matters border, they had not reached that breaking point.
Incoming President for Tanzania Samia Suluhu who has been the Vice to Magufuli, on her part, proposed a 14 day mourning period in Tanzania.
Suluhu divulged that her late boss had been diagnosed with Heart related complications at Jakaya Kiwete Cardiac facility where he finally succumbed.
She will be taking over upto the end of Magufuli second term.
