Sunday, June 9, 2024 –Mary Njambi Koikai mother has announced that her late daughter will not be put in a casket.
The mother who was speaking to the media for the first time in her life, has explained that the decision not to confine her late daughter in a box is because she was many things among them a Rastafarian, educated lady, Christian, artist, politician, reggae fan etc.
She detailed that the late daughter despite being a talented entertainer, she wore many hats.
“Hatutaweka Njambi in a box. Njambi is many things; ni msomi, Christian, artist, mwanasiasa, reggae fan, Rastafarian (We will not confine Njambi in a box. Njambi is many things; she is educated, a Christian, an artist, a politician, a reggae fan, a Rastafarian), and mentor. That’s how I knew her,” she told the reporters.
The heartbroken mother said she was trying to remain strong despite being hit hard by her daughter’s death that came after struggling with her for many years.
“Hii ni njia ya kila mtu lazima tukubali. Nimekuwa na wakati ngumu sana lakini ikafika wakati nikasema nijipe nguvu. Poleni sana kupoteza kwani kupoteza kwenu ni kwangu pia. Njambi aliwapenda sana (This is a path we all must accept. I have been through a tough time, but there came a moment when I told myself to stay strong. I’m sorry for your loss as your loss is mine too. Njambi loved you all very much),” she said.
Njambi was popular by stage name Jahmby Koikai and died on June 4 after battling Endometriosis which, medically, is not considered fatal, but in rare instances it can cause life-threatening complications.
Symptoms of the condition include severe debilitating pain often in the pelvic area, fatigue, and heavy periods.
The reggae MC had to undergo several major surgeries in and outside the country to try and save her life.
Jahmbi will be laid to rest on Friday June 14.
