Monday, December 12, 2022 –Rachel Kabue, a 50-year old lady, living in Nairobi has shared details why she hosts over 400 cats at her home.
On an exclusive interview aired on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation KBC Tv on Sunday December 11, Ms Kabue listed reasons why she started saving lives of cats by providing them with a good place to live.
Famous by her name ‘the Cat Woman of Mihango’ (Mihango is an estate in Utawala), founder Nairobi Feline Sanctuary NFS, noted that she feels satisfied a lot when she welcomes roaming and homeless cats at her home.
As on now, she has provided refuge to not less than 386 cats mostly from around Nairobi while others from far flunk counties like Kisumu, Nakuru and Mombasa.
“We rescue a lot of kittens that are thrown out in cartons or are left without a mother, usually three weeks or younger,” she revealed.
“It is managed through my income and donations that come in periodically from well-wishers,” she revealed.
She divulged that, in one week, the kittens could eat about 50 Kilograms of cat food and about 70 Kilograms of minced meat.
“I am spending upwards of between sh 250,000 and sh 280,000,” she added indicating that the donations have never been enough for the ever-swelling number of animals.
The Diploma holder in Community Development donated her Bungalow to the cats while opting to occupy a much smaller space within the same home.
The project, according to Kabue, has nothing to do with commercial value but a fulfillment of nature.
