Former Independent and Electoral Commission IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has flown to Ivory Coast for an election-related function.
Making the update today Sunday November 19 through his X platform, the former Kenyan electoral chairman said he was honoured to continue getting international recognition and invitations to address matters surrounding Africa elections.
“Honored to be in Abidjan, Ivory Coast where I will deliver a presentation titled “Overcoming Political, Legal and Institutional Constraints Against Electoral Reforms” at the 2023 ECONEC Symposium.
“The forum aims to guarantee sustainable election administration in West Africa,” he wrote.
Chebukati also seized the opportunity to laud IEBC for winning a series of international awards from various agencies just one year after presiding over last general election.
“Congratulations IEBC for winning the Election Management Award and coming in Runner’s Up position for the Election Ergonomic Award at the 19th International Electoral Affairs Award Ceremony held at Crowne Plaza, Portugal, yesterday night. Glad to have witnessed this moment,” Chebukati said.
In his tours lined up across Africa, Mr. Chebukati has focused on highlighting on the common electoral challenges around Africa.
“I spoke about the use and impact of technology in Kenyan elections, reflected on lessons learned from the 2017 General Election, and explained how we leveraged technology for the 2022 General Election,” he added.
Chebukati continues to stress that, on August 9, 2022, he held the most transparent and credible elections in Kenya’s history.
This happening even as the opposition led by Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka differ with him on the presidential election that handed President William Ruto victory with a difference 200,000 votes against Odinga.
