Friday, December 2, 2022 –Raila Odinga has accused President William Ruto of a ploy to rig 2027 general election following today’s removal of the four dissenting IEBC commissioners.
Odinga, who was breathing fire during their Nairobi grassroots leadership meeting held on Friday December 2, said Ruto’s government was hellbent on planning to again rig next general election four years earlier.
He asserted that his wing will not be sitting pretty comfortable waiting to be rigged out again in 2027 and termed the removal of Ms Cherera and her three other colleagues from office as another sad day for the country.
The ODM Party boss also questioned the proposed Bill in Parliament which is seeking to make changes on how to appoint next group of electoral commissioners.
“The events in Parliament yesterday on the formula of appointing IEBC commissioners and the hounding of the four commissioners have got nothing to do with integrity, but about 2027. Ruto wants to rig the 2027 election. We should not allow this to happen,” Odinga charged.
To take-on William Ruto’s government, Raila announced parallel public rallies and meetings starting with the next Jamhuri Day of December 12 which he said his Azimio brigade will be holding their own meeting.
“On December 7, we will launch the public consultations forum at the historical Kamkunji Grounds. And we will return to the same grounds on December 12 to continue with the consultations,” Raila threatened
President William Ruto today announced the immediate suspension of Cherera and commissioners Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya following an official recommendation from the National Assembly.
Cherera’s fate now lies in the hands of the Presidential tribunal which may seal their fate out of office for good.
